Negligent complaint -ER Surgeon/and Team 10-01-2022 _ Advocate and representative for my mother Yvonne Parris . Halifax Daytona Beach FL

Original review Jun 30, 2023
I am Napoleon Bryant, and I am representing my mother Yvonne Paris, who was treated at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida on October 1st 2022, by the ER surgeon and surgical team. The reason for this complaint letter is to request a full investigation(NHS) of exactly what happened in that surgery room, because it could be possible that other staff could be held liable, ranging from the surgeon to the prep team, the nurses and more. After I received a second opinion, the inconsistencies, unanswered questions, and from the negative comments that were overheard by the healthcare professional that assisted with the surgery. I asked, could my mother have been a victim of Medical Negligence (wrong site surgery)? First I was advised that the surgery would take 30 to 45 minutes and the surgery actually took 3 hours. Could this have been due to the surgeon doing a second surgery to try to correct or patch up the mistake from the first surgery? After surgery, I continued to ask for operative notes, and received the runaround for days until I was advised that I would not be able to receive them until discharge which I didn't understand, (never received). Doctors couldn't tell me if she had a seizure or a stroke after the surgery. A couple of days after the surgery the case manager asked me to sign a document stating, if I do choose to sue the hospital, I would have a sit-down with Hospital Reps first to discuss the issue before I seek legal representation(I found that odd, so I did not sign) she also gave me someone else's quote for a transfer as if trying to detour me from trying to transfer my mom to another hospital for a second opinion which should be hippo violation(I do have that documents). Then once again there was that insult overheard from anesthesiologist William Turner. Second opinion Doctor advised that from the looks of it Halifax ER could have gone in her brain and dissolved an old blood clot during surgery not a new Clot, so not sure what the surgeon's going on for 3 hrs. Lastly, the overall treatment, attitudes, body language, facial expressions, and untruths from when I would ask questions regarding anything that had to do with the surgery, the notes, or my moms care raised suspicion. This is my third and Final complaint with your hospital. I placed formal complaints expecting a prompt and thorough investigation into this matter, for a prompt resolution, do to this being such a stressful, and emotional, situation. I am praying that I will not have to escalate these issues and drag this out any longer, because I am drained emotionally, mentally and financially, however I am prepared to go as far as I need to go for my mom and any other innocent patients who put their trust and lives into the hands of these Healthcare professionals that forget the oath that they took when they became a doctor. Not only that, but I am going to make sure that we did not go through everything we went through in vain. My mom did not deserve this treatment.

Horrible experience—Go somewhere else if you can

They are short staffed and have cut back on supplies. They seem to spend all their money on Tv commercials. I had back surgery there years ago and it was bad then but I had hoped it might have gotten better. My wife had surgery there on Sept 1, 2023, and after being on her stomach for hours during the surgery her catheter had clogged. By 4 pm the bed was soaked and all the blankets. I waited 45 minutes and cleaned her up myself and asked for dry blankets. Nurse brought 1 little blanket and said that was all they had. I asked for a diaper for her to protect the bed and covers and she said that the hospital didnt have diapers. I was told that they didnt provide toothbrush and toothpaste or basin and I would need to bring that from home. FOOD SERVICE. Food was surprisingly good but it tended to arrive cold. Nurses were nice enough to heat it up. If we were not there they would deliver it and put it 3 feet away on a table where she could not reach it. I hired a caregiver to stay with her and take care of her when I was not there. Do not put a loved one in Halifax Daytona if you cant stay with them or hire someone to be there. The nurses try but they are spread thin and supply locations are not very well organized. Nurses great-Management sucks!!
